艾滋疫苗的問題似乎從來都是負面消息，用屢戰屢敗，越挫越勇這些字眼來形容艾滋病疫苗的研發艱辛歷程實在不為過。最新出版的一期《Nature》封面文章就目前艾滋病疫苗的研究進行了評論分析，Accelerating HIV vaccine development。

文章由著名艾滋病疫苗專家Wayne C. Koff撰寫，Wayne C. Kof博士是IAVI（國際艾滋病疫苗倡議組織）高級研究員和首席科學家。從事艾滋病疫苗研究多年，曾2次獲得美國衛生部頒發的服務勳章。曾參與在泰國取得部分成功的艾滋疫苗研究項目。

IAVI - International AIDS Vaccine Initiative 國際艾滋病疫苗倡議組織，1996年成立，該組織2000年投入1000多萬美元, 把準備進行試驗的候選艾滋病疫苗的數目增加兩倍. 這個組織將在3年內提供至少300萬美元, 以完成馬里蘭大學人類病毒學研究所的疫苗研製工作.

Wayne C. Koff博士分析，儘管我們沒有取得艾滋病疫苗的最終勝利，但是，相比停滯不前而言，近幾年，科學家們還是取得了小範圍的成功的。比如說，前不久在泰國取得部分成功的艾滋病疫苗，至少找到了一種可以廣泛中和HIV表明抗原蛋白的抗體；還有不久成功獲得猴免疫缺陷病毒（SIV）的疫苗。

Wayne C. Koff博士認為，單打獨鬥已經不可能取得艾滋病疫苗戰役的勝利，唯有實現科學大合作，在2011年前，給出一個長期的、靈活的、大規模的資助機制促使不同學科科學家大聯盟才可能在HIV疫苗的研發上去的突破。
