风沙。英国诗人布莱克的有两行诗：

 

You throw the sand against the wind,

And the wind blows it back again.

 

我喜欢布莱克诗里的神秘主义倾向。这首诗却通俗直白，有关与伏尔泰，卢梭进行的宗教信仰之争。前两句是：

 

Mock on, mock on, Voltaire, Rousseau;
Mock on, mock on; 'tis all in vain!

 

王佐良先生的译文如下：

 

嘲笑吧，嘲笑吧，伏尔泰，卢梭，
嘲笑吧，嘲笑吧，但一切徒劳，
你们把沙子对风扔去，
风又把沙子吹回。

 

布莱克的诗歌有着浓厚的基督教意识。而伏尔泰把天主教教宗比作“两足禽兽”，传教士是“文明恶棍”，基督教则是“一些狡猾的人布置的一个最可耻的骗人罗网”。可想而知，两人观点不共戴天。

 

布莱克这首诗的后几句，还涉及诸如“德谟克利特的原子，牛顿的光粒子”等字句，甚煞风景，与他的风格格格不入。他的目的很明确，是想说明科学与圣经教义有关：

 

“德谟克利特的原子，

  牛顿的光粒子，

  都是红海岸边的沙子，

  那里闪耀着以色列的帐篷。”

 

牵强附会，这还叫诗么？我读来如同嚼蜡。诗人逼急了，文风也为之一变。我还是欣赏布莱克的本真面目，喜欢他的神秘幽深，就像他的那首：

 

 

To see a world in a grain of sand,

And heaven in a wild flower,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,

And eternity in an hour.
