彭丽媛与艾滋病致孤儿童结缘，已经有5个年头了。2006年初，43岁的彭丽媛欣然接受卫生部的邀请，成为一名预防艾滋病义务宣传员。
她说：“这是一份最好的新年礼物。既然佩戴了‘防艾’红丝带，我今后就要用心做这个事情。”从此，彭丽媛一刻都没有离开过受艾滋病影响的儿童。“这几年，救助他们成了我的生活重心。艾滋病致孤儿童的数量还在增长，我希望能尽自己最大的努力给他们一点帮助。”
