南非研究人员呼吁患艾滋议员坦白病情

国际在线报道(记者朱曼君):南非研究人员17日表示,大量感染艾滋病病毒的南非议员隐瞒病情,对国家抗击艾滋病工作造成了不良影响。
南非民主研究院研究员齐兰博当天在开普敦接收采访时说,过去8年,近半数南非当选议员死于50岁之前,这与当地普通民众的死亡情况大致相当。造成议员早逝的重要原因是肆虐南非的艾滋病。议员们对于病情的隐瞒大大影响了国家的抗艾行动。
南非是世界上艾滋病患者最多的国家。统计显示大约有540万南非人被艾滋病病毒感染,其中18%的人仍在工作。和世界许多其他国家一样,在南非患上艾滋病被认为是“不名誉的”。一个政治人物患有艾滋病的消息一旦被公众获知,他的政治生命基本上也就宣告结束了,这也正是众多议员选择隐瞒病情的最主要原因。
到目前为止,全南非只有一位女性议员勇敢地站出来向公众坦白自己是艾滋病患者,而其他染病议员则对病情三缄其口。
齐兰博说,议员们不是一个贫困的群体,他们的高染病率表明了南非目前抗艾形势十分严峻。
