June 2 issue of "Nature" magazine published an editorial - "small name, big disease" (A big disease with a little name), on AIDS prevention and control of progress of the current situation and discussions. The following is the main content of the article:
Far from the first case of AIDS was discovered just 30 years of AIDS treatment has made many encouraging results, but we still have much work to do. Groundbreaking research in a variety of continuing to provide for people with new and better means of AIDS prevention, the most recent relevant studies of antiretroviral drugs is the support of AIDS "prevention with" by far the most powerful proof of concept, but before , research also shows that antiretroviral therapy had proved effective.
But this does not mean that the new biomedical interventions can slow down the rate of HIV transmission. Among current AIDS in developing countries, there are six million are receiving antiretroviral therapy, without treatment is about 1,000 million. In addition, there are more high-risk infection initial infection and the prevention and treatment of people in waiting.
Global financial problems is one thing, like the United States, Europe, this wealthy region plagued by funding cuts, lack of funds caused by AIDS is not timely or will continue for some time. In addition, out of fear of discrimination and social factors, many people do not want to do HIV testing, enabling a high proportion of sick people do not know if this is equally difficult to AIDS.
Although the cost of a huge AIDS, but scholars believe that in order not to treat AIDS as the resulting loss will be much larger than the positive control.
Antiretroviral drugs to reduce HIV infection may play a role, but to reduce the spread of AIDS is more in need of social norms change. If we do not do this, AIDS in the next 30 years, losses will continue to multiply.
