在位于坦桑尼亚首都达累斯萨拉姆东北城区的“穆欣比利”国立医院，有一个医疗专家小组，他们运用中医疗法探索诊治艾滋病的途径，并提供其他医疗服务，成为坦桑医疗界和普通百姓了解中医药的窗口。

据该院中医组组长白文山介绍，随着２００４年底坦桑政府对艾滋病患者开始免费提供西方国家援助的艾滋病抗病毒药物，目前中医治疗组的患者以ＨＩＶ感染人群为主，还有部分难以耐受抗病毒药物毒副反应的患者。

白文山说，中医药对延缓患者由ＨＩＶ感染进入艾滋病期、改善抗病毒药物的毒副反应、提高患者生存质量具有积极的意义，受到广大患者的欢迎。但目前中医组也面临着加强技术力量和增加投入的问题。

“穆欣比利”国立医院副院长罗希娜·利皮尤加在接受新华社记者专访时说，１９８７年，运用中医疗法诊治艾滋病项目在坦桑尼亚开始实行，当时还没有治疗艾滋病的其他药物。西方国家援助的艾滋病抗病毒药物引入后，一部分艾滋病患者开始接受西药治疗，但仍有一些患者继续接受中医治疗，并取得一定成效。

利皮尤加表示，当前应加强在坦桑尼亚宣传和推广中医，让更多病人和医生了解中医。此外，中国医生还可以与当地医生合作，开发坦桑尼亚本地草药的应用。
