南非卫生部长呼吁重启艾滋病病毒检测活动

新华网约翰内斯堡8月17日电(记者李建民)南非卫生部长阿伦·莫措阿莱迪17日发表讲话,呼吁在全国范围内重新恢复因世界杯足球赛而中断的艾滋病病毒检测活动。
据南非广播公司17日报道,莫措阿莱迪是在南非商业联合会驻约翰内斯堡办事处作出上述表示的。他呼吁南非的企业能够在资金上提供帮助,以使更多人从这项活动中受益。
莫措阿莱迪说,南非是世界上艾滋病病毒感染率最高的国家之一,所有南非人应当齐心协力共抗艾滋病。如果能得到南非企业的大力支持,这项事业必将发展得更快。
据介绍,艾滋病病毒检测活动四个月前由南非卫生部和南非商业联合会共同发起,旨在提供免费的艾滋病病毒检测和相关知识的咨询。截至目前,已有数百万南非人接受了检测。然而,由于世界杯足球赛的影响,活动被迫中止。
南非是世界上艾滋病病毒感染率最高的国家之一。据联合国权威机构统计,截至2010年1月,南非4932万人口中,有超过570万人是艾滋病病毒携带者,每年有5.9万名感染病毒的婴儿出生。
迅速蔓延的艾滋病病毒,令人们不得不为南非未来的命运担忧。南非社会发展部警告说,如果这种状况继续下去,未来10年内,将会有大约600万南非人因艾滋病而死亡。由于艾滋病病毒感染者多为青年和中年人,届时南非将面临劳动力资源枯竭、振兴经济计划难以实施等问题。
