常武太湖医院，除了麻风病防治工作外，还负责武进全区艾滋病防治工作，医院设有艾滋病自愿咨询检测门诊、美沙酮药物维持治疗中心和艾滋病抗体检测初筛实验室。作为医院的医生，丁陈丽从2005年开始接手艾滋病防治工作，多年来，她始终耐心、锲而不舍地进行着艾滋病的宣传、干预工作，并在工作中不断总结经验，提高沟通技巧和能力，她与同事的不断努力，使全区性病发病率有了明显的下降。
新挑战——艾滋病防治工作
自2000年6月武进发现首例艾滋病感染者以来，艾滋病病毒感染者和发病人数呈逐年增长趋势，2005年丁陈丽接手艾滋病防治工作，义无反顾得挑起了防艾重任。
暗娼、同性恋、流动人口、吸毒人群是艾滋病的高危人群，对这部分高危人群进行有效干预将大大降低艾滋病感染率。为此，常武太湖医院性病、艾滋病防制科专门组织了一个高危行为干预小组，作为成员之一，丁陈丽每月一次深入娱乐场所和重点场所进行宣传，到乡镇企业针对流动人口开展艾滋病防治知识宣传，并发放安全套。
“很多人对艾滋病有偏见，因为不懂它是怎样传播的。”丁陈丽认为，虽然近几年大家对艾滋病的认识有所改善，但这还远远不够，在发放宣传资料时常常被人拒绝甚至嘲讽。有一次，她去乡镇上发艾滋病防治宣传单，就有村民说：“艾滋病是做了坏事的人才得的，不要发给我们。”社会上的偏见和歧视，对艾滋病感染者和病人来说无疑是莫大的伤害，“在我眼里，他们首先是病人，我有责任去帮助他们解除痛苦，不论是艾滋病病人还是感染者，他们都是不幸者，我们应该用更多的爱去温暖他们，点燃他们生活的希望。”。
工作之余，丁陈丽的手机是24小时开着的，因为经常会有病患会打电话和她聊天，从艾滋病服用药物出现的副作用到生活中的各种烦恼，许多不敢跟别人甚至是自己的父母说的话，他们都会和丁陈丽交流。而丁陈丽是一个很好的倾听者，她总是会耐心的帮助病患或感染者树立信心，并及时获得治疗，给予他们更多的心理关怀。
创新工作方式——建立QQ群交流
“每个患者最初都不愿意相信事实。”开始治疗前，因病人本身还不知道得病的事实，她坚持与每位病人一对一谈话，把检测结果通知本人。曾有一个男士，在他被告知感染艾滋病病毒后，他非但不能接受，还觉得丁陈丽是污蔑他，不肯接受治疗。任凭丁陈丽变着号码拨打他的电话，这位男士只要一听到她的声音便立刻挂断。电话已经打了一年，对方不接，她只能从乡镇上防保人员了解其身体健康状况，但丁陈丽说，她仍坚持下去。
由于目前防制工作面临艾滋病传播方式更加隐蔽，很多人有疑问也不愿咨询医生或主动到医院检查，更不愿意与医生面对面交流。在一次和病人的偶然沟通中，丁陈丽得到了启发，她利用网络建立了几个QQ群，有选择性的将病人加入群中，在虚拟的环境中聊天，避免了面对面的尴尬，病人可以敞开心扉畅所欲言，比如在治疗过程中遇到问题，自己有什么健康心得，大家可以一起交流，相互帮忙出主意。因为是同病相怜，孤独的艾滋病人终于有了“家”的温暖。而每天不管有多忙，丁陈丽一定要打开电脑跟他们聊一聊，平常则会委托两位管理员，帮忙答疑解困。
从不被信任到最信赖的“知心人 ”
“以同情之心善待患者，以关爱之情帮助病人”丁陈丽说，“他们受到社会的歧视和排斥，这是大家对艾滋病的认识还不够。他们是病人，不是罪人。我们应该关怀他们，鼓励他们走出阴影，让他们勇敢地站起来。”对于艾滋病病毒感染者，一句温馨的话就能使他们感到温暖如春，就连一个小小握手举动，也能增强他们战胜疾病的信心。面对人人惧怕的艾滋病感染者和病人，她以一个医务工作者崇高的职业道德，主动去贴近他们，给他们送去温暖、送上一份爱心。
为了保护艾滋病人的隐私，她和病人是单线联系的，小张是丁陈丽治疗的第一个男同（男同性恋）患者，这个男孩成长在单亲家庭，经济上并不宽裕。丁陈丽很关心他，每次小张去医院治疗，她就算再忙都抽空陪同前往，并四处奔波为小张申请到了免费治疗。小张的妈妈为了感谢丁陈丽，想邀请她一起吃饭，没想到丁陈丽爽快的答应了。“这是不会有危险的，我做这个的很清楚，艾滋病只能通过血液传播和性传播，吃饭、握手等都不会传染。如果我拒绝了，就是告诉感染者你害怕了，那么感染者怎么会信任你？还谈什么关怀、爱护他们?”这一举动让小张更加信任丁陈丽了。在她建立的QQ群中，小张就是管理员之一。
功夫不负有心人，经过多年的努力，在病人的眼里，她的角色渐渐转换，成了他们严重最需要和最可爱的人。因为丁陈丽始终给予他们家人般的关心，他们和丁陈丽成了朋友，每个病人每年至少要联系7次，并定期随访。虽说现在按规定他们可以直接与所在乡镇的防保医生联系，但仍有7个人要求跟着丁陈丽治疗。因为在他们心中，丁陈丽是他们最信赖的“知心大姐”。
